  • Manal al-Sharif
    Chief Information Security Officer, Ramsay Health Care

    Session: Feeling the fear, and doing it anyway

    Named by TIME as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World, Manal Al-Sharif has an incredible story to tell. She is a prominent voice for women's rights in both the Muslim and Arab world.

    Manal is one of the first Saudi women to specialise in the field of Information Security. An incredibly inspiring and motivating speaker, Manal stands up for those who can't and encourages others to do the same.

    In 2002, she began her expansive career, working at ARAMCO which is the largest oil company in the world.

    Nine years later, Manal helped to found and lead the #Women2Drive campaign, which challenged the ban on women driving in her country. Whilst driving, Manal was arrested and imprisoned for doing so but was released on the condition she never drive again on Saudi land, never speak about it nor do any interviews.

    Brushing off the experience, Manal continued to campaign for #Women2Drive. She also proudly campaigns for #IAmMyOwnGuardian to end male guardianship, #Faraj to help domestic helpers leave jail and #IAmLama which resulted in an anti-domestic violence law being passed in Saudi.

    Manal's tireless activism has seen her gain worldwide attention and receive the first Vaclav Havel award for Creative Dissent.

    A powerful and professional speaker, she has spoken at TED talks, Harvard, the United Nations, UNESCO, Oslo Freedom Forum, WIRED, Trust Women, The Arab Institute in Paris, the Center for International and Strategic Studies, Clinton Initiative, Women in the World, Dallas World Affairs Council, as well as several others.

    Manal also regular contributes to the media, writing for NewsWeek, the  NY Times, the Washington Post and Alhayat. She is now a regular columnist in Democracy Post by Washington Post.

    In 2017, Manal released her memoir, titled 'Daring to Drive: A Saudi Woman Awakening'. It describes the story of her life, having grown up in one of the most male driven countries in the world.

    Katherine Boiciuc, also known as KB, is the EY Chief Technology and Innovation Officer for the Oceania region.

    Prior to EY, KB has more than two decades experience and is one of Australia’s go to professionals on tech. She’s led global teams at Telstra and more recently has been advising Australia’s next generation of CTOs as a Director at Maximus. She also sits on the boards of NSW Bureau of Health Information and Infoxchange (Australia’s largest technology not for profit).

    KB holds an MBA and Master of Leadership from Deakin University, is a graduate from of the London Business School where she studied Managing the Company of the Future and is an accredited Futurist with the Institute for the Future in California.

    Fiona Boyd is a C-Level Executive and Director with extensive global leadership experience in Technology, Finance and Media. She has a proven track record of driving strategy, growth and digital transformation across large multinationals and entrepreneurial start-ups.

    She is currently the CEO and Managing Director of ipSCAPE Pty Ltd, an Australian cloud-based customer experience technology company enabling Software as a Service (‘SaaS’) solutions for clients in Financial Services, Telecommunications, Government, and Retail. In addition to a large client-base and presence across Australia, the company also distributes via international partnerships and operations established across Asia, UK, US & Europe. 

    Her previous executive roles include COO, CIO & Marketing Director positions for major corporates including Salmat, PBL Media - Ticketek, Reuters, and Citibank, in addition to company director experience on ASX-listed and other Boards. Fiona has also supported smaller entrepreneurial companies while based at Stone & Chalk as CEO of an accelerator for women entrepreneurs sponsored by NSW Department of Industry, Macquarie Bank, EY, and Gilbert & Tobin.  

    Throughout her career Fiona has focused on building successful businesses, products, and teams, driving innovation and growth through multi-channel, customer experience and digital transformation strategies. She has led Joint Ventures, Acquisitions, and Integration programs in addition to the implementation of several major cross-functional projects across multiple geographies.

    Fiona holds a Global Executive MBA and a bachelor’s degree from Sydney University. In 2023, Fiona was recognised as the Executive of the Year at the Women in Digital Awards and was also a finalist at the Premier’s NSW Export Awards for Women in International Business.

    Kate has extensive experience in senior roles in ICT across the finance sector, in the public sector, in retail and wholesale distribution, and in marketing, with expertise in data and digital.

    She has completed postgraduate studies in business; terrorism and security; and tertiary education. Kate also co-founded several technology startups, currently advises several startups, and serves as a non-executive director on several boards.

    Narelle Clark joined IAA in 2019, becoming its first Chief Executive Officer in June 2020. Specialising in the application of networks and systems, Narelle has a broad technical and strategic view of Internet scale ICT delivery and has been a user, builder, operator and researcher of Internet networks through her extensive career with major telcos, research agencies and consumer bodies. Narelle also has a leadership and governance background in the not-for-profit sector and, until recently, held a five-year tenure on the board of the Public Interest Registry which operates the .Org top-level domain.

    On first discovering the Internet in 1989, when a Lab Manager at UTS, Narelle set about wanting to connect every computer and piece of test equipment on her campus only to soon find herself in the team running the entire university network and all of the AARNet NSW regional network as well! This, in turn, led to a decade at Optus where ultimately, she led network architecture and their R&D program, working closely with Singtel in areas like IPv6 adoption, data centre construction and OSS. After leaving Optus she spent time with CSIRO leading their networking technologies research, sat on the Board of Trustees for the global Internet Society, then a stint in consumer advocacy and research, before acting as Principal Consultant with Pavonis Consulting where she advised companies in telecommunications regulation, operations and technology.

    Narelle is a current member of the Australian Computer Society, a member of the UNSW Engineering Advisory Board, a Senior Member of the IEEE. Narelle has a degree in applied physics, a masters in telecommunications engineering and a post graduate diploma in management.

    Kathryn King is the General Manager, Technology and Strategy Group and former Chief Information Officer for Australia’s eSafety Commissioner (eSafety). She has extensive experience across the private and public sector leading digital transformation and innovation initiatives.

    Kathryn started her early professional career as a teacher in the United States, where she established her love of learning and leading others on that same journey. Over the years Kathryn has held various operational and strategic roles at major media organisations, including Channel Nine, ACP Magazines and Bauer Media, where she played a pivotal role in implementing strategies to create a digital first workforce. She has also held senior executive positions in the public service where she has established critical technology capabilities that have supported eSafety’s mission to keep Australians safe online.

    These achievements have been recognised by awards such as a 2020 Webby Honoree, cowinner of the inaugural 2021 American Chamber of Commerce Award in the Digital Economy category, Innovation Australia Award Finalist recognition and most recently ranking #18 on the 2023 list of Australia’s Top 50 CIOs.

I have a Masters of Business and Technology from UNSW and a certification in ethical AI, which equip me with the skills and knowledge to drive the digital transformation and disruption of the health sector, and to ensure that technology is used responsibly and ethically to improve the lives of people and create a positive impact in society.
     
    I am passionate about empowering women and enabling technology, especially in the health sector, where I see a huge opportunity and need for innovation and change. I have successfully managed complex and challenging projects across education, transportation, and orthopaedics, working collaboratively with diverse and talented teams and stakeholders, and delivering high-quality outcomes that meet the needs and expectations of the customers and the business. I am motivated and ambitious, with a drive for continual improvement and learning, and a goal-driven focus.     Asifa Sherazi has recently joined as Director of Technology for Health Insurance and Business Services at BUPA. Prior to this, she headed up Customer Engagement Technology for Consumer, Business and Wealth Divisions at Westpac.

    Asifa has led numerous strategic technology portfolios including delivery of multiband capabilities across Westpac Group distribution channels, to transformation programs including Core Network Infrastructure and Software Defined WAN Technologies across Westpac.
